The most famously popular animal protein you can practice steam cooking with is fish ! And it makes sense: Most fish have delicate, flaky flesh that gets easily damaged on a grill. And although I enjoy grilled salmon once in a while, I am not too fond of getting heavy metals like aluminum in my nutrition. Most of the time, and especially when I have little time to cook, I steam it. And it is much easier and tastier this way. Not only do I not want additional heavy metals in my fish, but I’d rather get LESS heavy metals in my fish, if I can. Heard about mercury in fish, especially in large fishes up the food chain like tuna? That’s the one I really don’t want. Well, the good news is, steaming fish gives it a good steam bath.
It may be the way I make fish, but a fish medley always makes me think of spring. Mix together different textures of steaky, white and fatty fish also means mixing different colors and tastes. Also, gather and cut all colors of the rainbow on your vegetables cutting board; a vibrant colored ratatouille of sorts. Tomatoes will provide the soft, juicy texture. Peppers, zucchini, eggplant, onion or/and leek provide the rest of the color. Add mediterranean herbs like thyme, rosemary and oregano, sea salt and pepper. Finish with a layer of deep green olive oil and serve it at your outside table, on a sunny day.
Doctors these days insist that we eat the rainbow. Great news, I’ve got the perfect recipe for you!
This is a different take on shepherd pie. Not quite the rainbow, but close! You will love the purple, orange green and white colors, dark and light green. You will marvel at the crunchiness of the vegetables, and at the delectable layer of mashed cauliflower and potatoes. I made this dish dairy free by replacing butter with extra virgin olive oil, and make the grated cheese only optional. Make it with ground beef or a 50 /50 mix of beef and venison, add plenty of pepper, you will enjoy it, guaranteed. Make it with the Vitaliseur steam cooker and you will speed the process, boost taste intensity and nutrient density of your meal considerably.

This is a gluten free, dairy free dinner that will satisfy all your senses. The steamed pepper is soft, full of flavor, and is paired wonderfully with the ground beef, tomato sauce, olive oil and vegetables. This mediterranean-inspired meal is kid friendly, filling, and checks all the favorite boxes: Colors, flavor, texture, wonderful smell that makes my kids salivate, a “box” (the pepper) containing a surprise-like dinner. And it’s nourishing. Oh and it’s mostly steamed!

When you think about steaming food, most people think “vegetables”. Of course, you can steam most of your foods in a good steam cooker besides vegetables or fish, the foods most commonly associated to steaming. You can cook rice, fish, chicken, cakes, some times of bread and crustless quiche for example. However, most people don’t think of that. This series of articles and videos is there to show you how. Another question comes to mind: how and how long do I steam root vegetables? In this article, I outline the few steps to follow, and address cooking times.
This is a a wonderful colorful medley of purple, white, green, light green, orange. It is composed of crunchy and softer type of vegetables simply steamed, then mixed and dressed together. All the vegetables’ natural tastes keep their strength while complementing each other, and so does their combined textures. The simple dressing does not overly cover their tastes, just acts as a subtle link between them. And the family is in awe! It is so wonderful with a side of meat balls!
